Alpinion transducer technology

ALPINION’s transducer portfolio, supported in Greece and Cyprus by Ippocratis Medical Equipment S.A., includes conventional piezo-ceramic, composite PZT and the latest single crystal materials.
Single crystal material produces broadband frequency response and higher sensitivity, permitting its use in harmonic imaging with minimal loss of the acoustic signal.
It results in more uniform wide-bandwidth imaging and thus offers higher resolution images to the user.
ALPINION has overcome the historic engineering and application limitations in the processing of delicate and expensive single crystal transducer materials through a unique and proprietary fabrication process.
With ALPINION’s high performance single crystal transducer, users acquire broadband images with unparalleled sensitivity.
Through a unique and innovative single crystal transducer processing technology, ALPINION has produced the largest single crystal convex transducer ever fabricated, and the world’s first 3D/4D transducer made with single crystal material.
A single crystal transducer is characterized by a higher energy conversion efficiency and higher sensitivity than conventional piezo-ceramic materials; consequently, single crystal transducers can produce greater uniformity, and stronger penetration.
The attention to ergonomic design extends to the flexible cable and lightweight handle that are standard on all ALPINION transducer products.
Driven by customer requirements, ALPINION has accomplished the following:
• Ergonomic Transducer design with a flexible cable supports pain-free wrist manipulation when imaging.
• Labeling
Fluorescent labels on the transducer enable users to identity the transducer ID easily under subdued lighting conditions.
• 3D/4D transducers
Lightweight 3D/4D transducers with improved detail accuracy by overcoming size limitation and manufacturing difficulties.

The launch of a new E-CUBE Series ultrasound system, the E-CUBE 15 EX

ALPINION MEDICAL SYSTEMS Co., Ltd., announced today the launch of a new E-CUBE Series ultrasound system. Developed to enhance user experience and patient care in a range of clinical areas, the E-CUBE 15 EX produces superb image quality. With advanced imaging technologies, this system delivers outstanding clinical performance in women's health, general imaging, and shared service applications.
Confidence at first sight
The latest in the renowned E-CUBE Series, the E-CUBE 15 EX provides advanced women's health practice - delivering innovations in automation for fetal health and cardiac monitoring from the early stages, imaging capabilities for a comprehensive range of complex women's health issues, and new transducer technology.
ALPINION, known for its expertise in transducer technology, has created the world's widest-angle Endovaginal transducers (EV3-10X, EC3-10X) featuring a maximum field of view of 230 degrees to provide more anatomical information in a single view, as well as a volume Endocavity transducer (VE3-10H) with a 10mm tip. The new transducers provide great value early in the first trimester and in gynecological exams, not only helping to detect fine details with high resolution, but also reducing procedure time and patient discomfort.
The combination of Live HQTM generating exceptional anatomical realism through the use of a moveable light source and the industry-first volume single crystal volume convex transducer maximize the 3D/4D image quality.
The E-CUBE 15 EX also incorporates Auto NT, which automatically measures nuchal translucency thickness. This feature is not only quick, easy, and efficient, but also increases accuracy by reducing the inter- and intra-operator variability when performing such measurements manually.
Additionally, the E-CUBE 15 EX offers exceptional imaging for superficial applications including small parts, vascular, and musculoskeletal exams. IO8-17, a high frequency (8-17Mhz) hockey stick linear transducer with a small footprint and 'Fountain-pen' grip enables users to obtain better angulation and control. Needle VisionTM Plus, along with selection of the scan angle, supports quick & accurate needle guidance to the target area of interest
The E-CUBE 15 EX provides several innovative quantitative features, stress echo, and TEE transducer for cardiac imaging capabilities.
Elastography gives physicians the ability to non-invasively measure and quantify tissue stiffness in the thyroid, breast, and other organs through acquiring the strain ratio between the target and reference area faster than before.

Findings support reliability of ultrasound screening to detect ALTR after THA

When using MRI as a reference, ultrasound examinations provided reliable screening for the detection of clinically important adverse local tissue reaction legions surrounding metal-on-metal or highly cross-linked polyethylene bearings, according to study results.

Takashi Nishii, MD, and colleagues assessed 131 hips of 105 patients who received ultrasound and MRI examinations after total hip arthroplasty performed with either metal-on-metal (MoM) or highly cross-linked polyethylene(HXLPE) bearings and screened them for adverse local tissue reaction(ALTR).
Ultrasound examinations showed a similar frequency of periarticular abnormal patterns among patients who received MoM and HXLPE bearings, while MRI showed abnormal lesions of similar size and predominant involvement of Type I lesions in both groups. Between ultrasound and MRI findings, researchers found substantial agreement for the detection of abnormal lesions in both groups. When MRI findings were used as a reference, ultrasound examinations showed a sensitivity of 74%, specificity of 92% and accuracy of 84% in detection of abnormal lesions in the MoM group and sensitivity of 90%, specificity of 83% and accuracy in 85% in the HXLPE group. Results showed ultrasound examinations failed to detect ALTR in seven hips in the MoM group and two hips in the HXLPE group. However, ultrasound examinations detected ALTR in three hips in the MoM group and eight hips in the HXLPE group that were not shown with MRI, according to study results.

FDA Warning: Stay Away From 'Keepsake' Ultrasounds

The medically unnecessary scans peddled by businesses—often set up in malls and administered by people with no healthcare training—may pose a health risk to both fetus and mother.
Despite repeated warnings by the Food and Drug Administration over the years, commercial ultrasound businesses—often set up in shopping malls and run by untrained technicians—continue to offer their services to expectant parents. And consumers, despite the FDA’s pleas, continue to pay for them, shelling out hundreds of dollars for photos or videos of their developing fetus (and fueling a thriving Etsy niche, where ultrasound images can be turned into ultrasoundcufflinkspillowscake toppers, and truly unsettling night lights.)
Earlier today, the agency issued the latest of a long line of alerts against non-medical ultrasounds and heartbeat monitors, reminding consumers that “both are prescription devices designed to be used by trained healthcare professionals … only when there is a medical need, based on a prescription,” and that “the FDA strongly discourages their use for creating fetal keepsake images and videos.”
Ultrasounds, which use sound waves to produce an image, are considered a safe and valuable diagnostic tool during pregnancy, when they can provide information on the fetus' age, sex, and overall health. But “ultrasound can heat tissues slightly, and in some cases, it can also produce very small bubbles in some tissues,” FDA biomedical engineer Shahram Vaezy said in the alert. Because the long-term effects of the heating are unknown, these gratuitous ultrasounds, which provide no medical information, may pose a small but unecessary risk to both mother and fetus—compounded by the fact that their duration, and the qualifications of the people administering them, aren't subject to regulation. “Prudent use of these devices by trained healthcare providers is important,” Vaezy said; outside of a healthcare setting, “the number of sessions or the length of a session”—often up to an hour—“is uncontrolled, and that increases the potential for harm.” (Researchers have recently focused on ultrasound as a possible method of male contraception, noting that it dramatically lowers sperm count when applied to the testicles.)
The FDA first took a stance against non-medical ultrasounds in 1994; since then, it’s issued a steady stream of reminders to parents, healthcare providers, and businesses, including the announcement in 2002 that it was illegal to administer an ultrasound to anyone who didn’t have a prescription. In 2005, the issue again found its way into the spotlight when Tom Cruise told Barbara Walters during an interview that he and then-girlfriend Katie Holmes, pregnant with daughter Suri, had purchased their own ultrasound machine for home use. The following year, in the wake of medical blowback to Cruise’s announcement, theCalifornia legislature passed a bill restricting the sale of ultrasound equipment to healthcare practitioners, though the bill was vetoed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. In 2009, Connecticut became the first state to successfully ban the practice.
Several medical groups have also come out against commercial ultrasounds over the years, including the American Medical Association, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American College of Radiology, theAmerican Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and the American Pregnancy Association.
For those still dead-set on emerging from pregnancy with some sort of keepsake, medical ultrasounds can pull double duty. “While FDA recognizes that fetal imaging can promote bonding between the parents and the unborn baby,” the alert says, “such opportunities are routinely provided during prenatal care.”
And besides, there are better souvenirs from those nine months. For example, a healthy baby
